The internship in 30 seconds
Day to day
My supervisor has given me a lot of freedom to explore my artistic abilities and different interests.
Intern
Maya was the marketing intern at a theater in Seoul and also helped with social media management. Her biggest project was the theater's rebrand: she created all-new Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts, and made content for them, such as video guides from the main tourist spots showing how to get to the theater, and digital ads for open comedy classes and upcoming shows.
“The working culture has been very welcoming here.” Her supervisor gave her a lot of freedom to explore her artistic abilities and different interests while helping promote the theater.

The hard parts
Maya's first placement didn't work out. “When I first came to Korea I was actually placed with a different company. I was there for only two months and it didn't go as well as I expected. It just wasn't a great fit for me.”
She asked AIP if she could change internships. “Luckily they said yes, we can do that.” AIP reached out to other companies in Korea and pretty quickly placed her with the theater. “I'm really happy that I decided to change and that they were willing to help me.”
It's an example of how we handle a placement that isn't working: we talk it through with you and look for a better fit.
Things nobody mentions
Life in the city
Maya used her free time to travel all over Korea and made a lot of great friends. She tried to experience the culture in as many ways as she could, from traditional activities like the fan dance to K-pop dance, and made sure to tour the historical parts of the city.
New to the city?
What to know before you land
I would really recommend taking an internship with AIP, especially if you want to see a different part of the world, experience a new culture, or work in a different industry or type of environment that you're not used to, and especially if you're a go-getter and just really want to put yourself out there. Take full advantage of the culture and the country that you're in, and really use AIP's resources.

Hi, my name is Maya. I'm 22, I'm from the United States, and I majored in theater arts administration at Fordham University in New York City. I'm currently working as the marketing intern at a theater, and I'm also helping with social media management.
At the theater I do a variety of roles, but the largest one is helping with the rebranding of the theater. So I have created all-new social media accounts, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, and in addition to that I've created content for them, such as video guides from main tourist places to help tourists figure out how to get to the theater, and also digital ads for their open comedy classes or upcoming shows. I'm really trying to promote the new brand of the theater and reach the more tourist sections [unclear].
My time working here at the theater has been a really great experience. The working culture has been very welcoming here. My supervisor has given me a lot of freedom to explore my artistic abilities and different interests in helping promote his theater.
In addition to having a nice experience with the working environment here, I've really enjoyed being in Korea as a whole. I've taken advantage of my free time to travel all over the country and have made a lot of great friends. I've tried to experience the culture in as many ways as I can. I've [unclear] lots of food, I've participated in traditional culture activities like the fan dance, and K-pop dance, and made sure to tour the very historical parts of the city.
I've had a really great experience with AIP. When I first came to Korea I was actually placed with a different company. I was there for only two months and it didn't go as well as I expected. It just wasn't a great fit for me, I didn't mesh well with the environment. So I reached out to AIP and I asked them if I could change internships, because it just really wasn't working for me, and luckily they said yes, we can do that. So they got on board, they started reaching out to other companies in Korea, and pretty quickly got me placed with the theater, and it's been amazing. I'm really happy that I decided to change and that they were willing to help me.
I would really recommend taking an internship with AIP, especially if you want to see a different part of the world, experience a new culture, work in maybe a different industry or type of environment that you're not used to, and especially if you're a go-getter and want to [unclear] and just really put yourself out there. It's been an amazing experience, and I would highly recommend taking full advantage of the culture and the country that you're in, and really utilizing AIP's resources, because they're awesome, they're really great, and I highly recommend them.
