Do I need to speak Spanish?
No. Our host companies in Spain work in English. Some basic Spanish helps in daily life.

Real estate, art & fashion, business development, hospitality, environmental science and marketing.
Where will I live?
Furnished housing within about an hour of your office: Standard on Traveler (your own bedroom in an apartment shared with other interns; a same-gender apartment on request), Premium on Pioneer (a private apartment to yourself, with your own bedroom and bathroom and a shared kitchen). Rent is paid by AIP up front, so you do not deal with landlords or deposits.
Overview
What it's like to intern here
Most of our interns in Spain work in Valencia or Barcelona, and Madrid is also an option for real estate agencies, marketing studios, hotels and startups. Host companies in Valencia sit around the center and Ruzafa, in Barcelona around Eixample and Poblenou, and in Madrid around Salamanca and Chamberí. Real estate interns support listings and client viewings, marketing interns write content and track campaigns, and hospitality interns help hotel and events teams.
Days usually break for a long lunch, and colleagues speak Spanish with each other, so you pick up the language fast. Dinner is late, the beach and tapas bars fill the evenings, and weekend trains reach the rest of Spain.
Why go
Valencia and Barcelona sit on the Mediterranean, with city beaches a metro or bike ride from the office. Valencia's Turia park runs right through town.
Lunch is the main meal, dinner starts around nine, and tapas bars fill up after work. Paella in Valencia, its home city, is a weekend ritual.
High-speed trains link Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid, and weekend trips to Seville, Granada or the Costa Brava are easy.

You'll hear Spanish every day, at work and around town. Interning in Spain is a chance to improve your Spanish in a business setting.
The day often includes a long lunch break, and teams stay later in the evening. You learn to plan your work around a different rhythm.
You work on tasks in real estate, marketing, hospitality or business development, with a named supervisor and an evaluation at the end.

Which cities can I intern in?
Most interns work in Valencia or Barcelona, and Madrid is also an option, depending on your field and host company.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
Not for most placements. We place you with companies that work in English. Some Spanish makes daily life easier.
What visa do I need for an internship in Spain?
Visa assistance is included in every program. We confirm your visa route before you pay the deposit and prepare the documents your embassy asks for.
Where will I live?
Traveler interns get Standard housing: furnished accommodation where you share the apartment with other interns and have your own bedroom. A same-gender apartment can be arranged on request. Pioneer interns get Premium housing: a private apartment to yourself, with your own bedroom and bathroom and a shared kitchen. Housing in Spain has no air conditioning. We vet every place, and it's within about an hour of your office by public transport. Explorer doesn't include housing, so you choose where you live.
How long are internships in Spain?
From 6 to 24 weeks. Longer internships often give you bigger projects, so consider 12 weeks or more if you can.
What else should I budget for?
Budget for food, local transport and personal spending on top of your program fee.
