Intern

As a supply chain and logistics intern in Bangkok, Jacob worked with large data sets on the company’s manufacturers and customers, looking for trends in repair data and in profitability information.

On AIP: when he first spoke to Ken, “he listened a lot to exactly what I wanted in the internship. I told him I want to do a logistics company, and he found me a logistics company to go work with.” Ken answered all his emails and questions, and his mom’s too. “Overall the staff has really made it pretty easy to just come into a foreign country and just start working.”

Life in the city

“I’ve had a great time in Thailand.” Bangkok is a major city where you can get anything you want, and Jacob found the people really nice and receptive, very different from New York. The food is really good and really cheap, which is great.

Advice

What to know before you land

Try and say yes to things, and network. If there’s a project or some sort of opportunity that comes along and you don’t have to do it, just try and get your hands on it. The more experiences you can have here, the more valuable it’s going to be when you’re done. Really just go for it, and make the most of your time.

My name is Jacob. I’m from New York, I go to Cornell University, and I’m an Applied Economics and Management major, which is like our business program.

I’m an intern at an aviation company in Bangkok. My main duties are probably dealing with a lot of the larger data sets in terms of our manufacturers and some of our customers. A big thing that I do is go through and look for different sorts of trends in the repair data, as well as some of the profitability information.

I’ve had a great time in Thailand. I’m based in Bangkok right now, which is a major city, you can get anything you want wherever you go. The people are really nice, they’re really receptive. I’m from New York, so it’s really different, and it’s really cool to see everything. We’ve been trying a bunch of different foods. The food is really good, and it’s also really cheap, which is great, because [unclear] you can actually do them and eat them. So I’ve had a really good time in Thailand so far.

AIP’s services have been good. When I was doing the placement, when I was interviewing with Ken, Ken listened a lot to exactly what I wanted in the internship. I told him I want to do a logistics company, and he found me a logistics company to go work with. He was really responsive to any of my emails, any of my questions. He got me all the address information, stuff like that. He answered my questions, my mom’s questions, it was perfect. Overall the staff has really made it pretty easy to just come into a foreign country and just start working.

Really just try and say yes to things, and even network. If there’s a project or some sort of opportunity that comes along and you don’t have to do it, just try and get your hands on it. The more experiences that you can have here, it’s just going to be so much more valuable when you’re done. As you’re coming to the end of your experience, you’re going to feel so much more satisfied if you actually went in, and you’re like, yeah, this weekend I [unclear], and the next week at work I got my hands on this [unclear] project and my boss is really impressed. So really just go for it, and definitely make the most of your time.
