What you'll do
Your day-to-day
As a Medical, Public Health & Pharmaceuticals intern in India, you might:
- Shadow doctors and nurses in departments that match your studies.
- Help run health education sessions in local communities.
- Collect and enter data for health research projects.
- Support a hospital pharmacy with stock and records.
- Help with patient records and clinic admin.
You'll observe and assist, but never do licensed clinical work. You'll build research and communication skills, and see how healthcare works in a very different system.

What to know before you go
Healthcare and pharma in India
India is one of the world's largest suppliers of generic medicines and is often called the pharmacy of the world. That makes pharmacy, quality checks and pharma research a real part of the local sector, alongside a large network of public and private hospitals.
Public health policy is visible at the state level too. Rajasthan, whose capital Jaipur is where our interns in India are based, runs a state scheme that gives free medicine to patients in government hospitals, which shows how closely pharmacy supply and public health work together there. For you, that means hospital, pharma and public health placements are quite different, so tell your career advisor early which one you want. Interns observe and support, but never do anything that needs a license, such as treating patients or dispensing medicine.

Can I do a pharma internship in India without a pharmacy degree?
Everyone 18 and over is welcome, with or without a degree. Pharma and lab roles tend to suit people with a related background, so we match you to tasks that fit your level of study.
Can I do a public health internship in India if I am not a medical student?
Yes. Public health work includes health education, data collection, research and policy reports, which suit many backgrounds. Your advisor will tell you what fits.
Will I treat patients during a medical internship in India?
No. You may shadow doctors and join community health sessions, but interns never do anything that needs a license.
