Local know-how
What to know before you go
Hotels and tourism in Valencia and Barcelona
Spain is one of the most visited countries in the world, and tourism is one of the biggest parts of its economy, so hotels, events and travel companies employ a lot of people. Barcelona draws visitors for its architecture, beaches and events, while Valencia mixes beaches, a historic center and festivals.
Our Spain programs are in Valencia and Barcelona. Both are busy city destinations, so expect city hotels, hostels, event teams and tour companies rather than only beach resorts. City breaks and cultural trips keep visitors coming outside the summer months, so guest and events teams stay busy for more of the year. Tasks depend on your host: you might work on guest services and the front desk in a hotel, or on bookings and events at a tourism company.

No. Host companies work in English. Basic Spanish helps with colleagues and local guests, and most interns pick it up quickly.
Is summer the best time for a hospitality internship in Spain?
Summer is busiest, but city destinations like Valencia and Barcelona get visitors all year. Programs start on any date and run for 6 to 24 weeks, so choose the season that suits you.

We work in both. Barcelona is the larger, busier international city, while Valencia is smaller. Tell your advisor which pace you prefer.
