Local know-how
What to know before you go
Environmental work in Vietnam
Vietnam is highly exposed to climate risk, so environmental work there is very practical. At COP26 in 2021, the government committed to net zero emissions by 2050, and it has repeated that goal since. Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta face flood and sea-level risks, and air pollution is a regular concern in Hanoi.
That shapes the work. Environmental teams in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City deal with topics such as air and water monitoring, flood and climate adaptation, waste, energy and public awareness. Depending on your host, you might help with data, policy research, reports and outreach, and see how national targets turn into local projects. Our interns in Vietnam work in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. It's a good place to learn if you want a career in climate or sustainability.

No. Our host companies work in English. Vietnamese helps with fieldwork and daily life, but it isn't required for the job.
Why is Vietnam a good place for climate and environment experience?
The country faces real climate pressures, from flooding in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City to air quality in Hanoi, so there is plenty of project work to learn from.

No. We welcome students, graduates and career changers. An interest in research, data or policy is what matters, and tasks depend on the host company.
